Prey For Us
Prey For Us deals with the issue of school shootings. As a school teacher of eleven years I have experienced my share of lock downs.
My art explores cultural contrasts and challenges expectations. I am inspired by the spirit realms, dreams, Kawaii, and Pop Culture. The use of soft colors draws the viewer in for a closer look with emotional feelings of nostalgia, then repels the viewer with a message that is thought provoking and sometimes disturbing.
We are not protecting our vulnerable children. We get angry when our children are gunned down, then we forget it happened! We do not look into it, we do not ask questions, we do not investigate. Instead we accept the scenario we are told. We need to accept our share of the responsibility for what is happening to our children. We are killing our light, our future, our hope, by not taking care of our children. We are steward's of all children, not just the children in our families. We have become sadly complacent.
